Review
A professional networking expert shares tips and techniques for making the most out of business connections.
Nowadays, with all the emphasis on connecting via social media, it's easy for a businessperson to overlook the importance of the original social interaction: connecting face-to-face. That oversight would be a costly mistake, as is evidenced in DeNucci's highly readable book. Keys to the networking process include identifying your strengths and weaknesses, polishing your image and personal brand, and setting goals and intentions for networking. Along with advice on how to stand out in a crowd and avoid referral blunders, the author shares sage counsel on the many vexing aspects of networking. For example, she wisely addresses the issue of quantity vs. quality in social connections, citing the example of Ethan, who reached his "Connections Critical Mass": "Ethan had believed everyone he met and every business function he attended had something to offer him and his business....As his business matured and his database and networking calendar grew, they were on the verge of robbing him and his business of valuable time, resources, and energy." DeNucci offers authoritative guidance on how to distill the top 20 percent of connections who can bring the most results and value and how a business networker can protect his or her time by saying no "with grace." She uses real-life scenarios and includes numerous helpful suggestions to motivate the reader to experiment with tactics that could result in a better networking experience. Along the way, DeNucci encourages and promotes self-confidence: "Delete the words 'should' and 'have to' from your vocabulary. Those are word choices that we often put upon ourselves when really we do have choices and options."
Novice and experienced networkers will appreciate this winning combination of networking philosophy and techniques.--Kirkus Reviews
Well thought out and presented tips and strategies on networking make this book a valuable addition in virtually any business situation. Some advantages could also be perceived on a more personal basis. The writer, an authority on the subject, comprehensively details ways and means to achieve a fruitful networking base which can involve networking less while reaping better results. There are useful career-enhancing pointers on setting policies and boundaries, and standing out in a crowd. Chapters cover a critical self-assessment, setting goals, building an image and brand, cultivating connections and relationships, attracting and making quality referrals, etc. Use of today's rapidly changing communication technology and social media are discussed. Time management issues and working from home are other major subjects. The first-person writing is concise and practical. Many subheads enable quick reading, and the use of bold face highlights key points. Various examples and episodes illuminate the useful text. Readers are likely to pick up solid operational nuggets which can be employed in their business and work. --Judge, 23rd Annual Writer's Digest Self-Published Book Awards

- Reviewed in the United States on February 7, 2013Patti DeNucci's book was an excellent reminder about having clarity on networking activities. I chose more carefully where I will invest my time and money to connect with my target market. The advice on the need to define our purpose about whom we want to meet at networking events is vital for anyone, especially myself, that often does mindless networking. The Intentional Networker also gave great tips on making a good first impression and how to follow up. This book is a great addition to any library on how to be more successful in business and life.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 30, 2011Patti DeNucci's The Intentional Networker will help you get clarity about your life, in general, as well as leave you with practical steps for increasing your network in a way that is authentic and focused. I especially love the points about being prepared for opportunities, and the application of the Pareto Principle to increase the effectiveness of networking. Additionally, this book is a pleasant read; I highly recommend it to anyone looking to improve their relationships, their business or their life.

- Reviewed in the United States on June 18, 2013I know Patti DeNucci personally, so writing this review seems awkward. That being said, this is a great bool...so good in fact, I bought copies for my best students so they could learn how to network even better. Knowing Patti and then reading this book reminds me that when people are authentic, they make a difference in the lives of others.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 28, 2016Great book for those who never considered themselves "networkers". It's authentic and real and makes you want to connect with people all around you. This book is well organized and so insightful. I can't recommend it highly enough.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 15, 2012This is THE book you wish everybody else would read-- and even if you think you know a lot about networking, you will definitely learn something! Countless times I have been to a networking event and seen examples of people behaving in ways that are not helping their businesses and their personal brands. This book is the answer! Well-written and well-thought-out-- a high quality book that belongs on every business bookshelf.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 6, 2017This book is an excellent resource. I think Patti has thought of everything, including things that are often taken for granted or simply forgotten.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 28, 2012I strongly suspect that this author has either bought most of her five-star reviews or coaxed friends (through NETWORKING) to post them. In the first place, about five or six are clustered around the date of publication. C'mon. Some of them are dated BEFORE the publication date. Other date clusters appear in the reviews, as well, such as four appearing in an 11-day period in November (several on the very same date). There are long intervals with no reviews at all.
Unfortunately, this unethical practice has become common among publishers. I bought the book and KNEW something wasn't kosher about the reviews.
If you want a book on how to dress up, act nice, and make pleasant conversation at parties, by all means buy the book. If you want hard-core tips on networking, take a pass.
